inien was founded in 2009 and consists of Axel Haller (Berlin) on electric bass and Johannes Tröndle (Vienna) on violoncello.
Their unique and highly individual approach to their instruments drags you into a world of low frequencies, crackling sounds and beautifully set single notes. The music captures your attention like eavesdropping on a very intense and deep conversation between two philosophical minds.
In order to develop and elaborate this conversation, Tröndle and Haller have creatively extended their techniques to drive the attention away from the actual nature and ability of the instrument straight towards the substance of this duet.
inien released their debut CD favoriten in April 2011 on the Berlin based label schraum.
The Astronomical Unit - Part space-time analysis, part free improvising conquistadors. The trio of Christian Marien, drums, Matthias Müller, trombone and Clayton Thomas, double bass are pursuing a liberated music. Drawing from the rhythmic seas uniting Gagaku and Hip Hop, as well as the spontaneous construction of the Spontaneous Music Ensemble.
Their debut CD was released on Jazzwerkstadt Berlin in 2009 - named Relativity, this recording captures a textural fetishism that they have since relinquished in favor of a more robust analysis. A bit like giving up fractal drawings to work at the Hadron facility.
They’ve recorded second CD "Super Earth" - due for release in september 2013.
