Robert B. Lisek, chfs, Manuel Knapp: Critical Machine Opera

Guest: Michal Cáb
Location: Institut intermédií
Thu 23.10. - 19:00

Critical Machine Opera is an event that combines experimental music with tactical media. It is Anti_Opera: a superposition of multiple spaces: stochastic synthesis, big-dense masses of sound and attacks with the use of crawlers; and internet robots for collecting data from the net.

Robert B. Lisek is an artist, mathematician and composer who focuses on systems and processes (computational, biological, social). He is involved in a number of projects focused on critical art strategies, hacktivism and tactical media. Drawing upon conceptual art, software art and critical media, his work intentionally defies categorization. Lisek is a pioneer in creating art based on A.I. Lisek is also a composer of contemporary music, author of many projects and scores in the intersection of spectral, stochastic, concrete music, musica futurista and noise.

Christian F. Schiller (chfs) is an Austrian experimental composer and author of various projects in the form of conceptual (sound) installations, concerts, performances and cooperations. He is the founder of the organisation in-dust.org and the festival project SAKRA!.

Manuel Knapp is an Austrian alchemist, active in the fields of composition, experimental music, computer animation, fine arts and touring actively as a noise musician. Floating on and among different media. He has created numerous exhibitions, concerts and screenings internationally.

Michal Cáb is a Czech visual artist working with mainly with sound and interactive images. He studied theology, with further study at CAS (the Center for Audiovisual Studies) at FAMU and completed his doctoral studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the studio of conceptual art. Since 2009 he has worked as a teacher of multimedia production a SUPŠ, Bechyně (multimedia technology, practical exercises in multimedia). He works with the Linux operating system and the application Pure data, exploring the possibilities these two technologies. He is known primarily as a noise musician and programmer, often in collaboration with actors and visual artists.

Organized by: Famu, IIM and Školska 28 Gallery. Supported by the Austrian Cultural Forum.
